Google clearly dominates the Korean ecosystem… The ‘public opinion of YouTube’ has also excelled [IT돋보기]

[아이뉴스24 안세준 기자] Lawmakers belonging to the Science, Technology, Information and Broadcasting and Communications Commission (GandDefense) are expected to work together to block Google. Negotiations began in earnest to put Gautam Anand, YouTube’s executive vice president, on the witness stand.

This is because Google is campaigning against a bill that is being promoted by lawmakers from the opposition and opposition parties as a hostage, and at the same time raising doubts about text terrorism, etc.

On the 23rd, according to an official from the Minjoo Party which belongs to the overprotection party, the vice president of YouTube, Gutham Anand, was included in the list of general witnesses of the government’s overprotection audit to be held from October 4th. The purpose of this is to ask why the ‘Partial Amendment to the Telecommunications Business Act (aka the Prevention of Careless Rides Act)’ proposed by 14 members including Representative Yoon Young-chan (and the Democratic Party) is why the damage is transferred. for creators like YouTubers.

The content that Vice President Gutham Anand recently posted on YouTube Korea’s official blog became a hot topic. On the afternoon of the 20th, he uploaded an article under the heading ‘We will share the content of the National Assembly debate on network usage fees’ via the blog. “If the bill is passed, the business that has been built (by Korean YouTubers, etc.) will be damaged or destroyed,” said the vice president.

“The bills currently being discussed in Korea allow content providers (CPs) to charge additional fees for content. They allow Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to double the burden,” he said. As a result, these additional costs will penalize content providers and creators who make a living.”

Earlier, the Ministry of Defense held a public hearing to review the amendments to the Telecommunications Business Act relating to the payment of network usage fees. The vice president posted the post immediately after the public hearing ended. It was a meeting prepared to organize the bills relating to the network usage fee pending in the National Assembly and to listen to the views of the content and telecommunications industry. Currently, there are seven bills related to network usage fees, including a bill proposed by Representative Yoon and 14 other members of the National Assembly.

The aim of the bill proposed by representative Rep. Yoon is to ensure that foreign content providers such as Netflix and YouTube also pay network usage fees to domestic telecom operators. SK Broadband has been suing Netflix for the past three years. Although SKB said it would provide a dedicated network to handle Netflix traffic and get paid, Netflix insists on providing Open Connect and no settlement.

OpenNet Korea, an incorporated association, is conducting an anti-signature campaign to oppose the payment of network usage fees. YouTube is encouraging creators to join the protest movement. Gutham Anand said, “Creators, including Asian Boss, expressed deep concerns about the matter. Those who are concerned about the related laws, please raise their voices together.”

The Senedd is uncomfortable. This is because it is interpreted as a challenge to a measure agreed upon by the opposition and the opposition parties. An official from the Minjoo Party, which is affiliated with the Liberal Defense Party, said, “This bill is a measure proposed by lawmakers from the opposition and opposition parties after feeling the need. On the hand otherwise, YouTube uses YouTubers as hostages to fight public opinion. Domestic companies pay a fair amount, but only foreign companies It doesn’t make sense to say no,” he said.

He continued, “Reverse discrimination between domestic and foreign content providers has continually been raised. It is difficult to understand why the law requiring everyone to pay a fair fee regardless of whether they are domestic or foreign causing the damage to be passed on to YouTubers.”If you are not attending (for overseas reasons, etc.), we will proceed with inquiries through other Google officials.”

The telecoms industry is keeping an eye on the situation… “Youtube, you distorted the essence,” said the voice

The telecommunications industry is monitoring the situation closely. Most of the articles posted by Google and YouTube have been verified, but as a party to the bill, they do not take a different position. However, there are cautious voices that YouTube is distorting the purpose of the bill and expanding it in the wrong direction.

An official from the telecommunications industry said, “YouTube said that there is no such bill in any country in the world. I would like to ask which company in the world wins it all by instigating a movement against the decision of the National Assembly of a country “There is’ n seems to have been interpreted. We have to prove why paying a fair amount to a company is harmful to Korean YouTubers.”

He continued, “I believe we should respect each other’s differences, but not distort the essence. No country in the world has said there is no such bill, but I know the whole world is paying attention to this bill. It must be an anticipated move that requires fairness and responsiveness.”
