Government official sentenced to 10 years in prison for bribery An employee of the Directorate of Endowments has been arrested for accepting a bribe of 16,500 dinars from a school owner in the country. He was sentenced by a Bahraini high criminal court to 10 years in prison after completing his trial. The 48-year-old defendant allegedly took bribes to illegally alter land records.
The school owner leased land from the Directorate of Endowments in 2013 to pay a bribe to build quarters for school teachers and administrative staff.
The school owner who paid the bribe has been sentenced to 12 months in prison. In addition, the bribe-taker and the payer must pay a fine of 16,500 dirhams each. The incident came to light after the school owner informed a committee in Mumbai that he had paid to change the land records.
