Government seal on survival kit; Printing costs Rs 8 crore! | Supplyco Kit

Kochi സംസ്ഥാന State Government moves to affix Government and Supplyco stamps on cotton bags for survival kits provided by Supplyco. The decision to stamp the government out of the kit comes at a cost of at least Rs 8 crore during the financial crisis following Kovid.

The government stamp is mandatory in the tender invited for 1.61 crore cotton bags for survival kits. There are also allegations that the decision to mark the government with an unprecedented amount in the kit, which has been issued for months, is ahead of the election.

Both sides of the bag must bear the Government seal and the Supplyco seal. Government of Kerala should be written in Malayalam. Supplyco’s tagline ‘Forever with you’ should also be printed on the outside of the bag. The tender should show the price in addition to the printing.

Supplyco had called for tenders for 57 lakh cotton bags for Ernakulam, Palakkad and Thrissur districts, 53 lakh cotton bags for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Kottayam, Idukki and Pathanamthitta districts and 51 lakh bags for Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur, Wayanad and Kasaragod districts.

The tender deadline ended last day. Suppliers are required to provide the bags with a government stamp printed on the pattern provided by Supplyco.

8 crore for printing

It costs around Rs 6 to put the emblem on both sides of the cotton bag. It will cost about Rs 8 crore to affix the state government logo on 1.61 crore cotton bags, including the benefit of printing more numbers together. These extra costs come during times of financial crisis.

Since the onset of the Kovid epidemic, the government has provided survival kits to all ration card holders in Kerala, including essential items. But when it comes to elections, the government decides to provide the kit in a government-stamped bag. The budget also announced that the food kit would continue in the coming months.

600 crore to be paid to suppliers

The condition of the tender is that the cotton bag suppliers should print the government emblem at their own cost. In addition to the price of the bag, this cost will then be paid by Supplyco. But Supplyco still owes crores to suppliers of products. The arrears are over Rs 600 crore. The additional expenditure of Rs 8 crore is due to pay the suppliers for the last eight months.
