‘Grass for criticism’; President Geoffrey Muthukoya made his position clear

Malappuram: President Geoffrey Muthukoya Thangal has clarified his entire stand on relations with political parties. Samastha has strong ties with some of the political organizations. At the same time, Samastha has links with other political organizations. Samastha’s position is to cooperate with the ruling government. But Samastha also has a tradition of opposing governments on issues that need to be opposed, he said.

Each political party has clear goals. However he acknowledged that their numbers were not enough to defeat Samastha’s government. He was speaking at the Samastha Malappuram District Golden Jubilee Closing Ceremony. Geoffrey said he had not filed a complaint against any political party for making death threats.

The controversy started after the intervention of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, who brought the Samastha and the League to two positions on the Waqf issue. Samastha’s withdrawal from the Mahals’ protest against the decision to leave the Waqf Board appointments to the PSC was significant.

The Chief Minister had harshly criticized the protest and later summoned all the leaders for a discussion on the Waqf issue. Samastha made it clear that the government took their concerns seriously and later withdrew from the strong protests. With this, a large section of the Muslim League became very dissatisfied. Later, Geoffrey Muthukoya’s death threats against them escalated into a war of words between political parties. While the League blamed it on the failure of the Home Department, the DYFI leaders put the Muslim League on suspicion behind the death threats, which was widely discussed.
