GS Engineering & Construction Tops List of Construction Companies with Poor Quality Construction

Government to Release Top 20 List of Construction Companies with Housing Shortages

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport has announced that it will be publishing a list of the top 20 construction companies facing housing shortages every six months. This decision comes after the ministry started accepting housing defect issues through the website of the Defects Review and Dispute Mediation Committee.

The Lower Judiciary Committee, an organization under the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, resolves disputes arising from defects in apartment complexes on behalf of the courts. It is the first time that the ministry will disclose the number of default judgments for each construction company, in addition to the total number and types of cases.

The publication of the list aims to raise awareness about the issue of housing defects and prompt construction companies to improve the quality of their work. It serves to satisfy the public’s right to information and provide an opportunity for companies to strive for improvement.

According to the data from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, GS Engineering & Construction had the highest number of defaults between 2019 and last month, with a total of 759 defect reviews and 372 being judged as defective. The number of detailed defects for the company was 1,612. Gyeryong Construction Industry, with 151 defects and 533 detailed defects, followed closely behind. Other companies on the list included Daebang Construction, SM Merchant Marine, Daemyung Construction, DL E&C, and Daewoo Construction.

This release of the top 20 list by the government aims to increase transparency in the construction industry and address the issue of housing shortages. By providing this information to the public, it is hoped that the construction companies will be motivated to enhance their construction standards and deliver high-quality housing to the public.
