Hong Kong veteran stage artist Koo Tiannong passed away at the age of 69. It is known that Gu Tiannong felt unwell the night before and later passed away in his sleep.
Gu Tiannong was obsessed with drama during his studies. After graduating from Chinese University, he worked as a teacher and later joined the drama world. He joined the Hong Kong Repertory Theatre in 1983 and became a full-time actor. He is talented in screenwriting, directing and acting. In 1993, he switched to the Chung Ying Theatre Company and became the first Chinese artistic director of the troupe until 2018. During this period, the troupe has won the Hong Kong Drama Award for many performances, and Ku has also won the Hong Kong Artist of the Year Award. Gu Tiannong once participated in the host of the Hong Kong and Taiwan TV program “Headline News”, and participated in the program as “Secretary Gu”.
The classic Hong Kong stage plays “I Have a Date with Spring” and “Thirteenth Boy in the South China Sea” are being directed by Gu Tiannong. Du Guowei, the screenwriters of the two dramas, worked closely with Gu Tiannong. After learning the bad news, Du also posted on social platforms, describing the death of his partner as “sad and sad”. Peng Xiuhui, director of “29+1”, who was a full-time actor of the Chung Ying Theatre Company, wrote, “My first ‘boss’ / Mr. Gu Tiannong who hired me to join the Chung Ying Theatre Company / Our ancient Nong / Thank you for giving me so many opportunities / Thank you goodbye”.
