Gunman shooting in eastern Afghanistan… Five killed, including children and Taliban fighters

An attack occurred at an IS-K base… There is still no organization behind the claim

On the afternoon of the 2nd (local time) in Nangarhar province, eastern Afghanistan, five people were killed, including children, in a gunman shooting, EFE news agency and foreign media reported on the 3rd.

According to a Taliban official in Nangarhar Province, the assailant opened fire near a vegetable market in the capital Jalalabad.

“Three civilians, including children, and two Taliban fighters were killed in the shooting,” the official said.

Local Tolonews reported that four people were killed, including two civilians and two Taliban fighters.

One of the civilians killed was Sayed Maruf Sadat, a former spokesman for the state’s agriculture department, the Associated Press reported.

The group that claimed to be behind the attack has not yet emerged.

However, Jalalabad is one of the core bases of the Islamic State Khorasan (IS-K), a sect of the extremist Islamic State (IS).

IS-K also launched a series of bomb attacks in Jalalabad in late last month.

At the time, IS-K claimed that “at least 15 Taliban fighters were killed and 20 injured in the bombings on the 18th and 19th.”

Since then, the Taliban carried out a large-scale operation to eradicate IS-K in Charika, central Parwan province, on the 1st.

In the course of this operation, about 10 IS-K fighters were killed in self-destruction, and at least four were arrested.

Although the Taliban and IS-K are the same Sunni Islamic militants, they have had serious conflicts.

In particular, IS-K has criticized the Taliban as being moderate, pointing out that it has negotiated peace with the United States.

On August 26, IS-K carried out a suicide bombing at Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul, which claimed the lives of about 180 people.
