This year, even though the first fixed date announced in the Ampara calendar has passed, the mangoes have not been pressed well. The announced lagna passed, but the setback remained. So none of the mango growers of Chapainawabganj were motivated to harvest mangoes that day. That time has passed with embarrassment this season.
Less than two weeks later, another natural phenomenon made headlines. That is – hundreds of fishermen are waiting in Halda river with boats and mosquito nets to collect fish eggs. They expected heavy rains targeting the Cyclone Mokha. When that heavy rain starts, Rui-Katla and other carp fishes will enter the Halda river in flocks.
When the mother fishes begin to lay their eggs in the bends of the haldar stream, they play. Eggs will be extracted by straining the thin cloth net there. Catching fish eggs and making fry in Hanchari and selling those fry in nursery pond will earn a lot of money. That’s why fishermen on the banks of the river eagerly wait for this day throughout the year. But Mokha is gone. There has been little rain due to the effect of Mokha. The people of Ashivag district of the country did not realize any impact of cyclone Mokha. There was no rain in the northern part of the country at that time. On the other hand, due to the effect of Mokha, intense heat has been felt.
After the departure of Mokha, heavy rainfall is expected in the foothills of the Himalayas and the hilly areas of Assam under the influence of heat. On the other side of the border, heavy rains flooded rivers and rivers in Sylhet and Chittagong areas of Bangladesh. This year, although it has rained upstream, our mountain rivers have not yet flooded. Rui-Katla did not get a chance to come. The month of May is coming to an end, but the waiting time of Halda Par fishermen is not over. They are unemployed.
Observing these two conditions, it can be said that there has been a great change in the behavior of nature. Many people do not take into account the statements made in seminars and conferences about the harmful effects of climate change. Even policymakers in many civilized countries are reluctant to pay carbon taxes imposed to avoid the threat of man-made damage. People want to live by subduing nature. After harming nature using scientific technology, there is an urge and advice to use more complex scientific technology to compensate for that damage.
There is no plan to destroy nature in the name of development all over the world. During the Corona period, we noticed how much the noise pollution was reduced due to the shutdown of planes, ships, factories. The level of vibration on Earth was also greatly reduced. The animals of the forest thronged the place fearlessly as the use of sound and light was cut off due to the suspension of carriages and horses. It seems that nature wanted to take a breath of peace by spreading the corona virus. But people don’t throw away. A long effort has prevented the development of the deadly corona virus. WHO has already announced the farewell bell of Corona from all over the world and has given a message to allay the fear. But man’s program to destroy nature did not stop. We sing the praises of science and technology every day.
Along with spreading serious pollution by throwing toxic waste into the sea, cutting mountains, building dams in rivers, encroaching rivers, changing the course of rivers, filling rivers and canals, building bridges, making automobiles, deforestation, and even cutting down shade trees on the roadsides, we are increasing global warming. Which are the name of nature’s mutilation. On one hand we are destroying the nature and on the other hand we are waiting with interest by making calendars for ampara, fish egg catching etc. relying on nature’s kindness. Why is there such a contrast between us?
Its main reason is the extreme limitations of people. Man is still helpless towards nature. Man is still ignorant of many aspects of nature. Many people boast of their knowledge in denial of this fleet of ignorance. Man makes a big mistake when he sees his own big shadow and thinks he is too big. Because, when the sun falls, people see their own shadow in the light of that sun. So when people brag about their knowledge, it must be understood that their knowledge is running towards the bottom.
So what an uneducated kaviraj or hammer doctor first says about a patient is the same thing a renowned, passed doctor says when he fails to save the patient after making many attempts to save the patient. And that is – I have made no mistake in my efforts, now call upon the Creator!
This is the infallible law of nature. There is no way to deny it. Yet some people try to become enlightened. They transgressed the limits while observing the nature. In doing so, they are forced to depart from the world, frustrated by not being able to save any roots.
That’s why we have to think positively. People are eager to taste everything throughout the year. So the idea of getting ‘Baromasi’ has arisen in everyone’s mind. Want to get everything, want to eat throughout the year. Science and technology are teaching us this. I am growing mango, jackfruit, guava on the same tree by grafting. I am trying to grow eggplant, tomatoes, potatoes under the ground on the same vegetable plant.
A long time ago I heard a song on the radio, ‘Brother, listen to the new news. We have been filling up the lack of fish by artificially mixing the eggs and sperm of the stomach of the parent fish and mixing them together to create fry. Everything is possible! So why am I wasting my time with so much frustration about the arrival of mother Rui-Katlad on the banks of Halda River and the time of egg laying?
The reason is that some people will always destroy nature. And some people will cry, struggle, research all their lives to save it. This is what Daryl Messer says – ‘Bioethics – The Love of Life’. Showing love for the true or real – a natural or innate characteristic of a class of people.
There is another class of people who believe in plus-minus theory. Sins in the morning, repents in the afternoon to refute the sins. They ask the thief to steal and Giri to be careful. There are many of them in the world. That is why the world does not become the paradise of Plato’s imagination. This can be blamed on dual roles or the instability of the human mind.
But what kind of instability or contrast in our mood? Actually the contrast is in our tongue, in our taste. I have changed the nature or the original or the country to suit my own needs. The country is destroyed. Everything is artificial now. Still go to the market and look for native chicken, native khasi, native kai, river pabda. And I say, where did the previous taste disappear? Broiler on the dinner table when invited to other people’s house, see the hybrid nose sitkai!
Man’s constant encroachment on nature has forced him to live with conflict everywhere. Therefore, without doing proper research, calendars are being made with the dates of laying mangoes with only small observations and it is being said to wait on the Halda bank for fish to hatch. We are failing in these prophecies. Therefore, there is no alternative to making relentless efforts to get more in-depth research-based information rather than just relying on investment charts based on changing nature.
