Simona Halep (18th, Romania) reached the quarterfinals of Wimbledon for the first time in three years.

Halep defeated Amanda Anisimova (25th, USA) 2-0 (6-2 6-4) in the women’s singles quarterfinals held at the Center Court of the All England Club in Wimbledon, England on the 6th (Korean time).

It is the first time in three years that Halep has advanced to the Wimbledon semifinals since 2019, when he reached the top. After winning the trophy at Wimbledon in 2019, Halep went downhill.

After the 2020 Australian Open semi-finals, he did not perform well, and last year he suffered injuries and was unable to compete at the French Open and Wimbledon.

It was the same this year when he came back from an injury. Halep, who suffered in the round of 16 at the Australian Open, was also eliminated prematurely at the French Open.

But it was different at Wimbledon, where he won the championship. They won all matches up to the quarterfinals with no loss and confirmed their place in the quarterfinals.

Halep competes against Elena Rivakina (23rd place, Kazakhstan) in the quarterfinals to advance to the final. Rivakina defeated Ayla Tomrianovic (44th, Australia) 2-1 (4-6 6-2 6-3) and advanced to the quarterfinals.

Halep and Rivakina have played a total of 3 times, and Halep has 2 wins and 1 loss, leading the opponent in the record.
