Recently, 13 people who attended a Norwegian Christmas party were infected with the new mutation Omicron, a novel coronavirus infection (Corona 10). Health officials estimate that more than half of the 120 party attendees may have been infected with Omicron.

According to German news agency DPA on the 5th (local time), out of 120 people who attended the Christmas party that day, 60 have tested positive for COVID-19 so far. As a result of double sequencing, 13 cases were confirmed to be omicron variants. Testing is still in progress, and the health authorities see the possibility of additional confirmed cases being high.

Preben Abitzland, PhD at the Norwegian Institute of Public Health, said: “It was a very broad event.

According to Dr. Abitzland’s hypothesis, if the number of infected exceeds 60, DPA reported that the party would be recorded as the event with the highest number of infections outside South Africa.

The party was held in Oslo on the 26th of last month and was hosted by the renewable energy company Skatek.

According to multiple reports, at least one person at the party recently returned from South Africa. All attendees at the party had been vaccinated and tested negative before the event.

“None of the patients have yet been hospitalized because they don’t have serious symptoms,” Abitzland said.
