Han Dong-hoon sues Hankyoreh reporters for reporting ‘daughter’s parental chance’

Han Dong-hoon, a candidate for justice minister, sued the Hankyoreh reporters and those in charge of reporting to the police for reporting the allegation of ‘accumulating a child’s mother’s chance’.

On the afternoon of the 4th, Justice Minister candidate Han Dong-hoon announced that three Hankyoreh reporters and those responsible for reporting the allegations related to his daughter had been sued to the Seocho Police Station in Seoul on charges of ‘defamation by publications, etc.’.

A candidate’s side also said, “After the Hankyoreh report, the candidate’s side requested the overseas blog to take necessary measures to prevent the reckless robbery of the candidate’s eldest daughter, the dissemination of photos, insults, and dissemination of false information after the Hankyoreh report.”

On the 4th, the Hankyoreh published an article on the front page titled ‘Han Dong-hoon’s daughter is also ‘parent’s chance’ and ‘specs’ for college admissions’, saying, “In order to build the specifications that the daughter of Justice Minister candidate Han Dong-hoon will use to enter college, companies using ‘mom’s chance’ A circumstance has emerged that is suspected to have been donated to a welfare center by receiving a large amount of money from the government,” the report said.

According to the Hankyoreh, the daughter of a candidate is currently attending a famous international school in Korea and enrolled in an art academy specializing in studying abroad. Her recent activities, including interviews with American media and publication of e-books, suggest that she is preparing to go to university abroad.

The Hankyoreh said, “In the overseas university entrance exam, the social activities of the examinees, including volunteer work, are regarded as important, so there is a suspicion that the mother’s network was mobilized for the ‘specialization’ of a candidate’s daughter. The ‘corporate legal officer’, who is the spouse’s acquaintance, served as a link. It is said that the daughter of one candidate also told the welfare center to the effect that ‘the company where her mother’s friend is will donate a laptop’. A candidate, her spouse Jin, and the late Mr. Moogae, a legal officer, are all alumni of Seoul National University Law School. She reported that in November 2020, she also attended when she donated a laptop to a welfare center.”

According to the report, the daughter of a candidate said in an interview with a local media in the United States last November, “The most urgent thing (at the welfare center) was the equipment needed for online classes. I sent an e-mail to the corporate social responsibility department, explained what (we) do and asked for support. She replied little, but she finally got in touch with one of her companies and she said she would dispose of the used laptop. With the help of the company, she was able to donate more than 50 laptops to the welfare center,” she said.

Immediately after the report, a candidate’s side expressed the position that the subheading of the article, ‘Received 50 laptops from an acquaintance company’ and donated in her daughter’s name, was wrong.

A candidate’s side said in a statement, “There are many parts that are not true, so I will explain. The company donated directly in the name of the company after going through a fair screening process in accordance with the bylaws and discussing the donation procedure with the welfare facility, and the donation was not made in the name of the candidate’s daughter. The Hankyoreh report that the donation was made in her daughter’s name is not true because it was issued in the name of the company rather than the eldest daughter. The candidate has never been involved in any of these processes.”

After a candidate’s position was announced, the Hankyoreh deleted the subheading of ‘Received 50 laptops from an acquaintance company’ and donated in her daughter’s name from an online article.

Right after a candidate’s position was announced on the 4th, Jeong Hwan-bong, head of the Hankyoreh’s exploration planning team, told Media Today, “Even if you look at the statement, there is no refusal to the facts other than the claim of ‘name’. Do. However, such a response to media reports seems inappropriate in the sense that the Minister of Justice can move the prosecution in various ways, including personnel, and that even when the prosecution directs an investigation, there is room for the Minister of Justice to be involved in any way.” has revealed
