Hanyang University Consortium Granted 76 Billion Investment for Semiconductor Research and Development

Hanyang University Consortium Selected for Ministry of Science and ICT’s Innovation Research Center Support Project

Seoul, South Korea – Hanyang University announced on the 20th that the Hanyang University consortium has been chosen as a recipient of the Innovation Research Center (IRC) support project by the Ministry of Science and ICT. This selection will provide the consortium with the opportunity to receive funding up to 5 billion won annually for a period of 10 years.

The proposed project by the Hanyang University consortium is called the ‘Extreme Scale – Extreme Physical Properties – Surmounting Heterogeneous Integration Limit of Semiconductor Technology Research Center (CH3IPS)’. Along with the government’s financial support, the consortium plans to invest more than 16 billion won in universities and 10 billion won in companies. Notably, Hanyang University is already operating the Extreme Ultraviolet (EUV) – Enterprise-University Cooperation Center (IUCC).

The primary goal of the CH3IPS project is to establish a world-class sustainable semiconductor research base and foster industry-academia collaboration. The research and development (R&D) focus areas for this project include extreme ultraviolet (EUV) exposure technology, atomic layer process, intellectual property rights (IP) for device structure, heterogeneous integration (HI) integrated design, advanced packaging technology, and more.

Professor Ahn Jin-ho, head of the CHIPS Center and a renowned expert in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Hanyang University, foresees significant contributions to strengthening the national competitiveness of low-power, high-performance artificial intelligence (AI) semiconductors. He emphasized the potential impact by stating, “If we achieve the IRC’s goals, it will greatly aid in securing Korea’s position as a leader in super-gap semiconductor technology.”

This announcement by Hanyang University showcases their commitment to advancing semiconductor research and development in South Korea. With the support of the IRC, the CH3IPS project aims to drive innovation and foster collaboration between academia and industry.

76 billion investment gained over 10 years… Semiconductor process, materials, packaging research and development

Hanyang University announced on the 20th that the Hanyang University consortium has been selected for the Ministry of Science and ICT’s Innovation Research Center (IRC) support project.

IRC can receive support of up to 5 billion won per year for up to 10 years.

The Hanyang University consortium proposed the ‘Extreme Scale – Extreme Physical Properties – Surmounting Heterogeneous Integration Limit of Semiconductor Technology Research Center (CH3IPS)’. In addition to the government budget, it is planned to invest more than 16 billion to universities and 10 billion won to companies. Hanyang University already operated the Extreme Ultraviolet (EUV) – Enterprise-University Cooperation Center (IUCC).

CH3IPS aims to establish a world-class sustainable semiconductor research base and an industry-academia research collaboration system. We conduct research and development (R&D) on ▲ extreme ultraviolet (EUV) exposure technology ▲ atomic layer process ▲ securing intellectual property rights (IP) for device structure ▲ heterogeneous integration (HI) integrated design ▲ advanced packaging technology, and etc.

Professor Ahn Jin-ho of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Hanyang University, who heads the CHIPS Center, predicted, “It will contribute to strengthening the national competitiveness of low-power, high-performance artificial intelligence (AI) semiconductors,” and added, “If we achieve the IRC’s goal, it will be a great help in securing Korea’s super-gap semiconductor technology.” he did
