Heavy rains in Central and North Kerala; Waterlogging in Kochi city

Thiruvananthapuram: The Central Meteorological Department has forecast isolated showers in all districts of Kerala in the next few hours. Ernakulam and Thrissur districts are likely to receive heavy rainfall. Earlier, the meteorological department had forecast heavy rains in the state in the coming days due to cyclonic cyclones over and around Kerala and low pressure prevailing from North Kerala to Vidarbha.

Central and northern Kerala will receive heavy rainfall in the morning. Kozhikode: The rain which started last night will continue till morning. With this, floods formed in many parts of the city. Heavy rains are also expected in the hilly areas of the district. The rain which started yesterday evening in Kannur and Malappuram districts will continue till morning. Orange alert was declared in Kannur and Kasaragod districts today.

Heavy rains lashed many parts of Kochi city during the night. Extreme levels of flood danger were announced in MG Road, Kaloor and South Railway Station Road. The shops were flooded after the floodwaters formed at the Edappally toll junction. Water flooded in West Kochi and many other places. In Thripunithura, people were evacuated after houses were flooded.

A tree fell on the Kozhikode Koyilandy National Highway and obstructed traffic. Attempts to cut down the tree are ongoing. A tree fell on the roof of a house in Nedumkandam, Idukki. The tree fell on the house of Suresh, a native of Kompayar. The tree fell while Suresh and his family were asleep but no one was injured.
