On the 29th of last month, Candidate Huh posted a video on his Facebook with the title, ‘I called you…’. The video contains the contents of a conversation he had with reporters after candidate Huh’s application for a ‘provisional injunction to ban TV debates for four-party presidential candidates’ was rejected by the court.

Candidate Huh said, “The only way to inform me is by phone because I do not show myself on TV and all the media do not fix it.” He said, “This is self-defense. It is a basic right of the people. So it was legal for me to call.”
Then, referring to citizens’ complaints of fatigue over repeated calls, he said, “I just hung up because you (the phone) felt uncomfortable. Now there is no chance to let me know. I have no chance to announce that I am running for president.”
Finally, Candidate Huh argued that it was unfair and said, “They (the presidential candidates) are seeing tremendous advertising effects on TV, but I have spent a lot of money on the phone now. Candidate Huh, who had been running a publicity phone call that started with “I am Candidate Heo Kyung-young” since November of last year, announced the suspension on the 24th of last month after complaints were raised.

Earlier, when the court put a brake on bilateral discussions between Democratic Party presidential candidate Lee Jae-myung and People’s Strength presidential candidate Yoon Seok-yeol, three terrestrial broadcasters such as KBS, MBC, and SBS proposed a multilateral debate to the People’s Party and Justice Party.
Candidate Huh then applied for an injunction to ban the broadcast of ‘Four-Party TV Debate’ on the 27th of last month, saying “it goes against the principle of equality,” but the Seoul Western District Court rejected the request.
This was because Candidate Huh’s approval rating fell below an average of 5% and his party did not have a seat in the parliament, so he was not included in the subject of participation in broadcast debates stipulated by the Public Official Election Act.
In addition, the court decided that it would provide useful information to voters by limiting the audience to candidates with the potential to win as the number of debates and broadcast time are limited. Meanwhile, the bilateral discussion between Candidate Lee and Candidate Yoon, originally scheduled for the day before, was ultimately canceled. As for the reason for the failure, Seong Il-jong, head of the People’s Power Debate Negotiation Group, explained that it was difficult to hold the event due to the Democratic Party’s request to “discuss without data.”
