A tentative agreement between the labor and management of Hyundai Heavy Industries for wage negotiations for 2021 was rejected in a vote for and against union members.

According to the union of Hyundai Heavy Industries on the 22nd, from 7 am on the same day, a vote in favor of or against 7,760 union members was held at the Ulsan headquarters, etc.

As a result of the voting, 6721 people participated in the voting, and 4605 people (68.52%) were against it and it was rejected. There were 2,094 votes in favor (31.16%) and 22 invalids (0.33%), respectively.

The union argued that the reason for the rejection was that “the complaints about the base salary increase due to the accumulated wage decline over the past eight years and the large shareholder’s high dividend feast angered the public in the field.”

Earlier, at the 37th round of negotiations held on the 15th, labor and management prepared a tentative agreement that included an increase of 73,000 won in basic salary (including 23,000 won in salary increase), 148% in bonuses, 2.5 million won in incentives, and 300,000 won in welfare points.

There is a possibility that the union may put strong pressure on the company as the tentative agreement barely prepared in labor-management negotiations, which has been dragged on for over six months since the meeting on August 30 last year, was rejected. The union had previously scheduled a strike, but put it on hold while drawing up a tentative agreement.

The union said, “We plan to continue discussing negotiations as soon as possible, as there have been dissatisfaction with current issues and wages that do not meet the expectations of on-site union members.”

Meanwhile, the labor and management of Hyundai Heavy Industries have previously been negotiating the wage and collective bargaining agreements for more than two years in 2019 and 2020. Negotiations in 2018 were also completed in over 9 months, and in the process, the first provisional agreement was rejected every time.
