HMM appoints Kim Kyung-bae as new CEO… “Leap to a global top with sustainable growth”

HMM appointed Kim Kyung-bae as its new CEO.

HMM announced on the 29th that at the 46th regular general meeting of shareholders held at the auditorium of the company building in Yeonji-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, Kim Kyung-bae was appointed as an inside director and appointed as the representative director through the board of directors.

The new CEO, Kyung-bae Kim, was selected as the new CEO candidate at the ‘HMM Management Recommendation Committee’ on the 9th of last month. After that, he visited HMM and had a meeting with the executives, then looked at business conditions such as the shipping industry market situation and grasped current issues.

An HMM official said, “The new CEO is a logistics expert who has successfully served as CEO at Hyundai Glovis for 9 years, and he has global management capabilities, organizational management capabilities, and expertise. All executives and staff will do their best to become a class shipping company.”

At the general shareholders’ meeting that day, CEO Kim Kyung-bae and general vice president Park Jin-ki (re-appointed) were newly appointed as inside directors, and excellent professor of international logistics at Chung-Ang University and Jeong Woo-young, a lawyer at Law Firm Gwangjang, were newly appointed as outside directors. In addition to the appointment of directors, other agenda items such as approval of financial statements, appointment of members of the audit committee, and approval of remuneration limits for directors were approved as originally proposed.

In his inaugural address, President Kim Kyung-bae said, “Please watch over us so that we can acquire a new status as a global top-class shipping company that we have been dreaming of for a long time through shared growth.

Meanwhile, CEO Kim Kyung-bae served as the Chief Executive Officer of Hyundai Group in 1998, CFO of Hyundai Motor America in 2000, Head of Planning Department at Hyundai Mobis in 2006, Chief of Secretary at Hyundai Motor Group in 2007, CEO of Hyundai Glovis from 2009 to 2017, and CEO of Hyundai Glovis from 2009 to 2020. Until last year, he served as the CEO of Hyundai Wia.
