Continued Accidents Persist Throughout the Holidays
Despite the holiday season, unfortunate incidents have continued to plague the nation. In Suncheon Bay, Jeollanam-do, a popular tourist spot, an operational monorail abruptly halted, causing the evacuation of numerous individuals.
Eye Witness Account Sheds Light on the Incident
A first-hand report by esteemed journalist Kim Jeong-woo reveals the alarming details. Above the boarding gate, a sign ominously proclaimed a “Service delay,” while a disheartened person sat on the floor.
At approximately 12:30 this afternoon, twelve monorail cars, covering a distance of about 4.5km from Suncheon Bay National Garden to the wetland, unexpectedly came to an abrupt halt.
In a swift operation, around 70 fortunate passengers were successfully evacuated. Unfortunately, a passenger in his 60s experienced breathing difficulties and had to be urgently transported to a nearby hospital.
A spokesperson from Jeollanam-do Provincial Government (voice distorted for anonymity) stated, “The monorail, known as the ‘Sky Cube,’ encountered a power outage of electrical nature. We are currently launching an investigation…”
Both the local authorities and the garden administration are convinced that the incident was a result of a power cut, but they are diligently working towards uncovering the exact cause behind this tragedy.
The aftermath of accidents across the country is clearly visible, such as the scattered debris of broken cars and burn marks, reminiscent of a recent collision in Jinwon-myeon, Jangseong-gun, Jeollanam-do.
On a four-lane road, around 1:30 this morning, a BMW car and an SUV collided horrendously. Regrettably, the car was engulfed in flames, while three young men in their 20s, occupants of the SUV, sustained severe leg injuries and were swiftly transported to a nearby medical facility.
According to reports, the driver of the BMW managed to flee the scene but later sought medical attention for injuries received during the accident.
A related police official (voice distorted for anonymity) commented on the incident, stating, “The collision involved a vehicle moving in the opposite direction. The BMW was descending…”
Authorities are currently investigating the circumstance surrounding the accident, surmising that the SUV might have been driving in the wrong lane.
Simultaneously, in Majang-dong, Seongdong-gu, Seoul, a blaze erupted on the second floor of a restaurant located in the bustling livestock market.
Thankfully, no casualties were reported from the fire. However, the flames extended to the adjacent building, causing significant property damage estimated at 20 million won, according to the fire department.
Fire authorities have attributed the cause of the fire to the outdoor unit of the air conditioner.
