The explosion occurred behind the shopping center, including Smith's businesses, Dion and some others.
The police are still investigating how the device was made.
"From the preliminary investigation, it was his ability to detonate and caused a rather large explosion," said APD CEO Mike Geier.
A worker in a firm said that the explosion exceeded the attraction center.
"I was in the back room, in fact, getting a phone for a customer when I heard everything goes wrong. He shook the windows in the front shop. Like when I walked out, he was shaking," said Juan Pablo.
Chief Geier said that he does not believe there are any further threats.
The name of the man killed was not released. Geier said that investigators will be speaking to his family to find out why he would have made a bomb at home.
APD updated. The police say Coors and Central are in attendance at active police because of an “unrecognized explosion.” A business area is sheltered and is evacuated.
