People’s Strength lawmaker Hong Jun-pyo argued that “a violent candidate from a family of murderers should not be president.” The dominant interpretation is that it was aimed at the Democratic Party presidential candidate Lee Jae-myung.

Rep. Hong Jun-pyo answered the question posted on the communication platform ‘Youth’s Dream’ that he created on the 26th. The question was, “Please tell me the answer of who should be elected president.” The author lamented, “I can’t see the arrogant party that puts forth the wrong candidate for their own self-interest, not the candidate the people want, to win.

Rep. Hong replied, “No matter how much it is, a violent candidate from a family of murderers should not be president.” Among the presidential candidates, only Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party’s presidential candidate, was the only candidate whose family committed the murder.

Lee Jae-myung’s nephew A visited his ex-girlfriend B’s house in May 2006 and stabbed B and his mother 20 times to death. B’s father saved his life by jumping out of a window at the time of the incident, but was seriously injured for 12 weeks.

Candidate Jae-myung Lee took charge of the case at the time and claimed that “At the time of the crime, he was in a state of weakness due to a decrease in his impulse control ability.” However, the court did not accept this. Person A was sentenced to life imprisonment in February 2007.

This incident has recently resurfaced because of an expression that Lee Jae-myung wrote on his Facebook page. He referred to meeting the family of a victim of dating violence and described the murder committed by his nephew A as a ‘dating violence felony’. “I offer my deepest condolences and apologies to the victims and their families,” he said.

When this information was delivered, Mr. B’s father met with the media and said, “It’s dating violence over a murder that ruined a family.” He criticized the late candidate Lee Jae-myung.

Candidate Jae-myung Lee posted on SNS after an interview article with Mr. B’s father was published, “I just saw the interview with the victims’ families.” Candidate Lee added, “I would like to express my apologies for being hurt by my inexperienced expression.” Candidate Lee later apologized publicly for using the term ‘date violence’ in public.

Meanwhile, according to Money Today, Candidate Jae-myung Lee once claimed mental and physical weakness when defending Mr. C, the defendant in the murder of a woman living together in Seongnam, Gyeonggi-do, in August 2007. At that time, defendant C stabbed and killed his girlfriend eight times because he said, “Let’s break up.” C was sentenced to 15 years in prison.
