Peking University HSBC Business School (UK Campus Peking University HSBC Business School, or PHBS) recently hosted a momentous celebration to honor the 125th anniversary of Peking University, as well as the 5th anniversary of its UK campus in Borehill, Oxfordshire.

A key highlight of the festivities was a conference titled “New Challenges and New Demands for Business Studies in Higher Education,” which drew over 200 scholars and participants from prestigious universities and institutions worldwide. Esteemed representatives from the University of Oxford, London School of Economics and Political Science, University College London, University of Bristol, the London Branch of the China Construction Bank, and the QS World University Rankings Educational Research Consultancy were among the attendees.

In his opening remarks, Professor Wen Hai, Founding Dean of HSBC Business School at Peking University, highlighted the collaborative efforts that have shaped the UK campus over the past five years. He underscored the campus’s crucial role in bolstering the internationalization of both Peking University and the HSBC Business School of Peking University, fostering academic exchanges between China, the UK, and Europe.

A series of thought-provoking keynote speeches were delivered by distinguished experts in the field. Notable speakers included Rebecca Leung, Director of Greater China Affairs at HSBC, who emphasized HSBC’s longstanding support for Peking University and HSBC Business School, as well as the importance of promoting Sino-British exchanges. Leung also highlighted the decreasing demand for international business studies among Chinese students.

Following the keynote speeches, scholars and guests engaged in lively discussions exploring the challenges and opportunities facing business education from various perspectives. Professor Soumitra Dutta, Dean of Said Business School at the University of Oxford, stressed the need for business education to adapt to the impact of artificial intelligence and big data. Meanwhile, Professor Neil Mclean, Director of the Department of Languages and Communication at the London School of Economics and Political Science, and Professor Alessandro Spano, Director of the China Center at University College London, underscored the significance of cross-cultural understanding and learning in business education.
