Let’s review the specifications first. The most changed Vive Focus 3 is equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 processor, with 8GB RAM (Oculus Quest 2 uses the same processor, but with 2GB RAM less), and runs HTC’s latest Vive Reality System 2.0 core software interface. This time the inside-out tracking system has doubled from two cameras to four. We all feel that the six-degree-of-freedom (6DoF) tracking performance is more stable this time.

The screen of Vive Focus 3 was replaced with a 5K (4,896 x 2,448) resolution, a 90Hz LCD panel and a 120-degree field of view. We were not surprised to see a significant improvement in visual effects during the experience. It also supports a wider interpupillary distance adjustment range (57mm-72mm; adjusted by the knob at the bottom), and can accommodate glasses frames with a width of up to 150mm, which is more flexible and practical than the previous generation. There is a piece of magnetic pads on the front and back, which not only enhances the comfort, but also allows you to easily disassemble for cleaning.

In terms of sound effects, Vive Focus 3 uses dual-unit open speakers, which makes the sound clearer and more immersive. Although it is an open speaker, HTC has integrated a special directional audio design to reduce sound leakage and bring a little privacy. In terms of radio, there are two microphones to provide noise reduction function to facilitate conversation.

Vive Focus 3 uses a hot-swappable battery design and places the battery behind the head to improve weight distribution. The battery life is up to two hours, and it can reach 50% of the power in 30 minutes. However, I believe that business users will directly change the battery.

There is an adjustment dial behind the head for easy adjustment of tightness. You can also see the independent LED indicator of the battery here, allowing you to check the battery level at any time without starting the device. There is a quick adjustment button at the bottom of the adjustment dial, and you can easily stretch the strap to remove the headset by pressing and holding it.

The new controller becomes a bit similar to the Quest series, but also uses infrared to track activities, with a battery life of up to 15 hours. Charging can use this Y-shaped USB cable to connect to the main body, charging the entire system in one go, which is much more convenient.

Although the weight has risen to 785g, the new weight distribution makes it very comfortable to wear, which is obviously much better than the previous two generations of Vive Focus with the center of gravity in the front!

In contrast, Vive Pro 2 does not seem to have many changes. The appearance is almost the same as the previous generation (so they are all the same and comfortable), but the inside is actually upgraded to a 5K (4,896 x 2,448) resolution LCD and a 120-degree field of view. The screen update rate has jumped to 120Hz, setting a new standard for VR visual effects.

Of course, this has to be matched with appropriate PC specifications; HTC recommends at least NVIDIA RTX 20 series or AMD Radeon 5000 and other GPUs of the same level. HTC has also jointly developed the Display Stream Compression protocol compatible with DisplayPort 1.2 with NVIDIA and AMD to guarantee the audio and video quality of Vive Pro 2 with compression transmission technology.

Vive Pro 2 is compatible with most existing accessories, including locator 1.0, locator 2.0, Vive controller, Vive wireless module, all Vive motion trackers, Vive expression detection kit, and third-party SteamVR somatosensory accessories (such as Valve Index Knuckle controller) and so on.
