Another large-scale volcanic eruption was observed near Tonga, an island nation in the South Pacific, AFP news agency reported on the 17th.
According to reports, an observatory in Darwin, Australia, detected a massive explosion around 11:10 a.m. local time in Tonga on the 17th.
The US Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said it had detected large waves in the area.
“It could be because of another eruption from the Tonga volcano,” the alert center said.
No damage has been reported from the eruption.
In Tonga, on the 15th, the Hunga Hapai volcano in Tonga, located 65 km north of the capital Nuku’alofa, erupted on the seabed.
Tonga was hit directly by a huge tsunami (tsunami), but no large-scale casualties have been confirmed so far.
