It’s not like an asteroid explosion like in the movie, but an Earth defense experiment with the same purpose has begun.
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) launched the ‘twin asteroid orbital correction experiment’ spacecraft aboard the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket.

The 600 kg spacecraft was detached from the rocket within minutes of launch and moved at a speed of 24,000 km/h.
The target is Dimorphos, a small moon of the asteroid Didymos, 500 million kilometers from Earth.
Dimorphus is about 160m in diameter and orbits the Sun every 2.11 years.
If the orbital period changes by more than 73 seconds after impact, it is considered successful, and it is predicted that it can change up to 20 minutes.
This process will be filmed by the Lysia Cube separated from the main ship ten days before the collision and transmitted to Earth.
The budget for this Earth defense experiment was 330 million dollars, and our money was 390 billion won.
NASA expects that this will be the first time that mankind is conducting an experiment to change the asteroid orbit, and that this will accelerate the establishment of Earth defense strategies to prevent asteroid impact disasters such as the dinosaur mass extinction.
Meanwhile, there are no known objects with a risk of a Dimorphus-level asteroid colliding with Earth within 100 years, but experts point out that there are still many unknowns about the potential threat of small asteroids.
