Hurricane Jawad; Yellow Alert in seven districts of the state

The yellow alert was issued in Ernakulam, Idukki, Palakkad and Malappuram districts. Isolated showers are expected for the next three days, the Met Office said.

Thiruvananthapuram: Yellow alert has been issued in seven districts of the state due to cyclonic storm Jawad. The yellow alert was issued in Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Palakkad and Malappuram districts. Isolated showers are expected for the next three days, the Met Office said.

Meanwhile, Hurricane Jawad formed in the Bay of Bengal and made landfall off the coast of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha. It will travel in a north-westerly direction and will reach land at Puri in Odisha tomorrow afternoon. It has been raining in northern Andhra Pradesh since last night. Extreme levels of rain are expected in the coming hours. Jawad touches the ground more weakly and with extreme low pressure. However, the vigilance order continues. Many families were evacuated from the coasts of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha.

Red alert has been declared in four districts of Andhra Pradesh. Warnings have also been issued off the coast of West Bengal. 64 teams of National Disaster Response Force have been deployed in Andhra Pradesh and Odisha. Extreme levels of flood danger were announced in Puri district of Odisha. East Coast Railway cancels 122 trains
