Hwang Hee-chan’s injury prolonged, Wolverhampton’s full transfer is unclear

As Hwang Hee-chan (25, from Chuncheon, Wolverhampton), the ‘bull’, is expected to recover from his injury, there are concerns that his English Premier League (EPL) soft landing plan will be disrupted.

On the 27th (Korean time), Hwang Hee-chan’s team, Wolverhampton, reported the injuries of the first-team players through the club’s website. The injured list also includes Hwang Hee-chan, who recently suffered a hamstring injury. Wolverhampton said, “Hee-chan Hwang, who suffered a hamstring injury in Brighton & Hove Albion, will only be able to play in February.”

Hwang Hee-chan was substituted out on the 16th with a pain in his thigh in the 16th minute in the 17th round of the Premier League against Brighton. At the time of substitution, Hwang Hee-chan walked out of the stadium on his own, so there were many predictions that it would not be a serious injury. It was expected that he would take a break for about two weeks and then stand on the ground again.

However, his injuries are likely to be prolonged. According to Wolverhampton’s announcement, he is expected to return in February, but even that remains unclear. Some observers say that Hwang Hee-chan’s injury is more serious than expected. Some local experts also raised the possibility of an anterior cruciate ligament rupture related to Hwang Hee-chan’s injury. If true, the rehabilitation period is bound to be much longer.

In many respects, there are concerns that Hwang Hee-chan’s EPL soft landing plan will be disrupted as the forecast that his long absence will be inevitable.

Hwang Hee-chan transferred from Leipzig to Wolverhampton on loan this season. After that, he scored four goals in league matches at the beginning of the season, establishing himself as a key player in the team. As a result, expectations were pouring in that Wolverhampton would pursue the full signing of Hwang Hee-chan at an early stage. However, as Wolverhampton expects his return in February, an early and complete transfer is likely to be delayed. Although Hwang Hee-chan’s performance at the beginning of the season was satisfactory, it is because there is no certainty that he will perform the same after returning from injury. Another obstacle is that Hwang Hee-chan’s recent performance has not been as good as before. Hwang Hee-chan has not been able to resume scoring after scoring his fourth league goal in the 9th round against Leeds United.

On the other hand, Hwang Hee-chan’s injury has also adversely affected the Bentuho, which is ahead of the 7th and 8th games of the 2022 Qatar World Cup final qualifiers. The Korean national football team, led by coach Paulo Bento, will play the 7th and 8th rounds of the 2022 Qatar World Cup final qualifiers against Lebanon and Syria on January 27 and February 1 next year.

Bentuho, who had played the 5th and 6th games in the absence of the ‘main gun’ due to Hwang Ui-jo’s injury earlier, will play in the absence of Hwang Hee-chan this time. Seunghwan Jeong
