Hwang Jeong-eum Reveals Surprising Casting Story for ‘Escape of the Seven’
Actress Hwang Jeong-eum, who is making her return to the small screen after a three-year hiatus, recently opened up about her unexpected casting for the upcoming drama ‘Escape of the Seven’. During a press conference held online on the afternoon of the 14th, the production presentation for SBS’s new Friday-Saturday drama took place. The event was attended by Um Ki-jun, Hwang Jeong-eum, Lee Jun, Lee Yu-bi, Yoon Jong-hoon, Jo Yoon-hee, and Jo Jae-yoon.
‘Escape of the Seven’ is a highly anticipated revenge drama that follows the story of seven villains who were involved in the disappearance of a young girl. After a series of lies and hidden desires, the narrative unfolds into a thrilling tale of blood-soaked vengeance. The drama boasts an impressive collaboration between writer Kim Soon-ok and director Joo Dong-min, known for their previous works ‘The Last Empress’ and ‘Penthouse’.
Eom Ki-jun and Yoon Jong-hoon, who previously worked with the talented duo on ‘Penthouse’, expressed their joy at reuniting for ‘Escape of the Seven’. Eom Ki-jun gladly accepted the offer, emphasizing the possibility of creating a captivating and spectacular drama. He admitted, however, that he had concerns about differentiating his role from his character Joo Dan-tae in ‘Penthouse’.

‘Escape of the Seven’ is a picaresque revenge drama that depicts the battle of seven villains who were linked to the disappearance of a girl who disappeared through a cluster of lies and many desires, and the bloody revenge against them. Expectations are high as this is the third work from writer Kim Soon-ok and director Joo Dong-min after ‘The Last Empress’ and ‘Penthouse’.

Eom Ki-jun said, “I was so happy when they said they would do it again. “I gladly accepted because I thought it would make for a fun and spectacular drama,” he said, explaining the reason for his appearance.
He admitted, “I think the problem was that I was worried about how to go with a different acting tone for fear of overlapping with Joo Dan-tae in ‘Penthouse’.”
Jong-Hoon Yoon also said, “It was such an honor. It was a great pleasure to be with the entire ‘Penthouse’ production team. It allowed me to take on a new, challenging role that I had never attempted before. “It was a big challenge for me personally and I had great joy,” he said.

He continued, “At that time, I was playing with the baby and changing his diaper. He contacted me when I was in dire need of acting. I answered in one second. Can’t you imagine giving Hwang Jung-eum a villain role? “When I told him I was playing a villain, my dad said ‘Bravo’,” she said, showing her special affection.
‘Escape of the Seven’ will be shown for the first time at 10pm on the 15th.
