Hyundai Motor Group’s hydrogen fuel cell to be installed in European next-generation hydrogen bus

Iveco, an Italian commercial vehicle brand, will install Hyundai Motor Group’s hydrogen fuel cell system on a next-generation hydrogen bus to be sold in the European market

Iveco Group announced on the 22nd that it signed a memorandum of understanding with Hyundai Motor Company in March to seek cooperation on shared vehicle technology, joint sourcing, and mutual supply.

HTWO is a hydrogen fuel cell system exclusive brand launched by Hyundai Motor Group in December 2020 to expand the hydrogen ecosystem. Based on the fuel cell technology proven through its hydrogen electric vehicle, the company is expanding its technology offering to other automakers and non-vehicle sectors to increase the utilization of hydrogen.

In cooperation with HTWO, Iveco plans to equip Iveco’s next-generation hydrogen bus for the European market with HTWO’s world-class fuel cell system.

The Iveco bus sector is already participating in a European tender for fuel cell buses powered by the HTWO system. In addition, through the plan to resume production of buses in Italy released last month, it is expected that a new model using HTWO’s hydrogen fuel cell system will be manufactured.

“By working with industry leaders such as HTWO with over 20 years of experience in hydrogen fuel cell technology, Iveco Buses can quickly respond to customer needs for carbon-neutral vehicles powered by state-of-the-art systems,” said Domenico Nuchera, President of Iveco Group’s Bus Business Unit. “Iveco Group will continue to play a leading role in leading a successful energy transition in Europe’s public transport sector.”
