Hyundai Motor Group will release more electric vehicles than internal combustion engine vehicles for the first time next year. Of the 12 new models, more than half of the 7 models will be launched as electric vehicles. It is predicted to set an aggressive sales target of 8 million units based on a solid electric vehicle lineup.

Hyundai Motor, Kia Motors, and Genesis have set up a new car roadmap for 2022 to produce 12 types (excluding overseas exclusive and commercial vehicles), including partially modified models and derived electric vehicles. Among them, it is accelerating the transition to electrification by filling in the largest number of electric vehicles in history.

The biggest feature of next year’s new car roadmap is the strengthening of the electric vehicle lineup. Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis did not launch electric vehicles (passenger models) last year. This year, Hyundai Motor Company’s Ioniq 5, Kia EV6, and Genesis GV60 based on an exclusive platform (E-GMP) and four electrified models of the derived electric vehicle G80 were introduced and entered the electric vehicle market competition.

Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis will introduce more than seven electric vehicles next year. We are strengthening our carbon-neutral strategy with a speedy transition to electric vehicles. Hyundai Motor Company and Kia Motors announced plans to convert to electrification 100% in major markets by 2040, starting in Europe in 2035. Genesis is promoting full electrification in 2030, five years earlier. Hyundai Motor Group plans to launch 23 new electric vehicles by 2025.

Hyundai Motor Company will release five electric vehicles next year, ranging from ultra-small to large. It is the largest among domestic automakers. Including the first electric sedan Ioniq 6 (exclusive model), Casper-class A-CUV (derivative model), Kona Electric successor B-SUV (derivative model), and semi-large SUV D-SUV (derivative model) known as ‘Ioniq 7’ ), Staria-based electric vehicle MPV EV (derivative model), etc.

Kia launches the Niro EV based on a completely modified Niro model, targeting the mid-to-low-priced electric vehicle market. The EV6 high-performance version EV6 GT is also added. Genesis is targeting the premium electric vehicle market with the GV70 EV (derived model).

Hyundai Motor Group’s new car plans, including seven electric vehicles, are the largest ever. 2022 is expected to be the culmination of Hyundai Motor Group’s new car cycle, which has been ongoing since last year. Hyundai Motor Group, which released 6-8 new cars every year, introduced 10 new cars last year and 11 new cars this year.

In addition to electric vehicles, key models scheduled for release next year include Hyundai Motor Sonata Palisade (partial change), Grandeur (complete change), and Genesis G90 (complete change). Kia plans to release an eco-friendly model Niro (completely changed). It continues its growth by launching the flagship car models of each brand.

With the launch of a new car in history, expectations for the highest performance in Hyundai Motor Group’s history have also risen. Based on the surge in atmospheric demand and the competitiveness of new cars, it is expected that next year, it will be possible to set a sales target of 8 million units, an all-time high. Prior to this, Hyundai Motor Group’s auto sales peaked at 8.01 million units in 2015 and remained at 7 million for several years due to intensifying competition and reduced demand. Sales this year are expected to reach 7 million units.

A Hyundai Motor Group official said, “We are reviewing the launch of various new cars next year, but the release plans or schedules for each detailed model have not been finalized.”
