Hyundai Motor wins world-class motorsport competitions every day

[서울=뉴스핌] Reporter Jeong Seung-won = Hyundai Motor Company has won the World Rally Championship (WRC), World Touring Car Cup (WTCR), and PURE Electric Touring Car Race (PURE ETCR), the world’s top motorsport competitions, at the same time.

Hyundai Motor Company’s Thierry Neuville and Dani Sordo from the Hyundai World Rally Team participated in the ‘i20 Coupe WRC’ rally car at the 11th 2021 WRC Championship held in Tarragona, Spain from the 14th to the 17th, respectively. It was announced on the 18th that they achieved a double podium by taking 1st and 3rd places.

With this win, Hyundai Motor lifted its third trophy this season and set a record of 20 wins in WRC history.

This season’s Rally Spain is the third paved road race of the season, and it requires a sophisticated setup of a race car and a high level of driver concentration.

Hyundai Motor Company proved the superior performance of the i20 Coupe WRC by winning the Spanish Rally once again following the last Belgian Rally on the pavement.

Thierry Neuville, who won the championship, set the record for the fastest in 10 of the 17 stages, and lifted the trophy by 24.1 seconds, beating Evans of the Toyota Team, who was in second place.

During the same period, Hyundai Motors lifted the trophy in the second of the two final races of the 2021 WTCR 6th held at the Pau-Arnos circuit in France.

WTCR is a global top-class touring car competition where high-performance race cars of C-segment by manufacturer such as Audi, Volkswagen, and Honda participate in large numbers.

Jean-Karl Vernay (member of Engsler Hyundai N Liquid Moly Racing Team), who participated in Hyundai Motor Elantra (Korean name Avante) N TCR, won the second final race held on the 17th, accumulating a total of 144 points. 2nd place in the driver category.

The 2021 WTCR will be held in eight European countries, and two races will be held in each competition, and the results of a total of 16 races held annually will be added to determine the winning team and driver of the year.

Hyundai’s electric racing car, the Veloster N ETCR, also took the top spot in the PURE ETCR, an electric touring car race. The match was held in France at the same time as the WTCR.

Jan Carl Burnay, who won the WTCR on that day, climbed Hyundai Motor’s Veloster N ETCR and won the championship with a total of 72 points in Group B 1st round 2nd place, 2nd round 1st place, and 4th round 1st place.
