Hyundai Rotem participates in ‘Jeju Green Hydrogen Global Hub Construction’ event

[월간수소경제 이종수 기자] Hyundai Rotem participated in the ‘Announcement of Jeju Green Hydrogen Global Hub Construction Plan and Commencement of 12.5MW Green Hydrogen Production Facility Demonstration’ held at CFI Energy Future Hall and Maison Glad Hotel in Jeju Island for two days from the 29th to the 30th. It was announced on the 30th that the development status was being presented.

This event was prepared to present the green hydrogen production business plan established by Jeju Island based on the ‘Hydrogen Economy Implementation Basic Plan’ published by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy. Green hydrogen is hydrogen produced by breaking down water with electricity produced from renewable energy such as solar power or wind power.

With the vision of ‘Building a Green Hydrogen Global Hub’, Jeju Island leads the transition from various demonstrations to a core region for commercialization based on water electrolysis.

By March 2026, it will spend a total of 62.3 billion won to develop technology to produce 2.7 tons of green hydrogen per day through water electrolysis, and through this, it will secure its own Korean green hydrogen production technology. It also plans to work together to lay the foundation for export industrialization through water electrolysis design technology and localization of equipment and materials.

Hyundai Rotem participated in the ‘Hydrogen Economy Seminar for Green Hydrogen Spread’ held during the event as a presenting company and presented its hydrogen electric tram technology and development status.

The hydrogen electric tram being developed by Hyundai Rotem is a demonstration project run by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and aims to complete development by the end of 2023. The hydrogen electric tram will have four 95 kW fuel cells (380 kW), high power lithium-ion batteries, six 750 bar hydrogen tanks, an integrated stack and electric cooling system, and the latest electric technology.

Hyundai Rotem is also exhibiting models of hydrogen electric trams and hydrogen production and charging facilities at ‘InnoTrans 2022’, the world’s largest rail technology fair held in Berlin, Germany for four days from the 20th (local time) to 23rd. He also promoted his hydrogen technology technology.

In addition, Hyundai Rotem is also developing hydrogen charging infrastructure capabilities. In March, after supplying a hydrogen extractor to the Chungju hydrogen fusion charging station that used biogas for the first time in Korea in March, in April, it won contracts for the production and installation of hydrogen shipping centers in Jeonju and Wanju, and a project demonstration for liquefied hydrogen charging stations at Gangwon Technopark It is making breakthroughs in the field of hydrogen infrastructure.
