Director Seol Ki-hyun said he did his best to catch Willian, but failed.

[골닷컴, 진주] Reporter Choi Dae-hoon = Gyeongnam FC manager Seol Ki-hyun opened up about the transfer of Willian. Although he understood Willian who was offered an amount he could not refuse, he expressed his regret that the team atmosphere was shaken.

K-League fans were thrilled with the news that Gyeongnam captain and ‘ace’ Willian would transfer. The destination is Daejeon Hana Citizen, a team competing for promotion to K-League 2. Domestic soccer fans were envious of Daejeon Hana’s financial power, while Gyeongnam fans swallowed bitter laughter at the news of Ace’s transfer.

For Gyeongnam fans, there is no choice but to leave regrets. Willian led the rise of Gyeongnam by scoring 4 goals in 4 games from the 17th round against Gwangju FC.

In response, coach Seol Ki-hyeon opened up about Willian’s transfer and future direction through an interview with Chungnam Asan FC.

Manager Seol Ki-hyun said he did not expect Willian’s departure at all. He added, “Willian was shaken a lot by betting such a large amount in Daejeon Hana. Willian said to me, ‘I don’t think I can get it while in Gyeongnam for this amount of money,’ and he told me humanly in a way that he had no choice but to do it.”

“The transfer of Willian had a lot of influence on the team atmosphere. He was also the captain and the team itself revolved around Willian. As a player leaves, the team atmosphere shakes, and if another player goes out from here, he will have to give up this season.”

He also said that Gyeongnam Province did its best to catch Willian. Manager Seol Ki-hyun explained, “We tried our best to meet Willian’s conditions, but we had no choice but to offer a better price in Daejeon.”

He continued, “I thought that we could be competitive even if we protect the players we have, but in the current situation, we are not able to protect them, and there is a problem. We hope that this will not happen again.”

Manager Seol Ki-hyun frankly revealed that he had difficulties finding a replacement for Willian, saying he was financially tight but wanted to find a replacement for Willian. “I don’t know what the club will think, but as a manager, I want to fill (foreign players),” said coach Seol Ki-hyun.

He continued, “I’m thinking of building a twin tower with Thiago using a quality cross. Thiago has a very difficult time keeping his opponent in check, and I think if there is another player like him next to him, he will be able to put a burden on his opponent.”

Gyeongnam is a provincial club and does not have a large budget. Contrary to the wishes of coach Seol Ki-hyun, additional foreign players may not be recruited. With the summer transfer window open, Seol Ki-hyun’s head seems to be getting more complicated.
