The netizen said, “Many politicians go to jail and I think the political board is scary. What is political retaliation for each other?” Rep. Hong responded briefly, “On the day I lost the primary, my wife’s first words were, ‘I don’t have to go to jail anymore.’”
This is interpreted as meaning that if Rep. Hong had won the presidential election and became president, it would have resulted in him going to prison in the end of the Korean political landscape, which was fraught with political retaliation.
