On the 10th, former Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun, the presidential candidate of the Democratic Party of Korea, announced a pledge to supply 2.8 million housing units during the presidential term, and introduced a way to secure housing in the city center by constructing residential facilities on the site of a school. Prime Minister Jeong’s goal is to bring house prices down to 2017 levels.

On the same day, former Prime Minister Jeong announced a pledge for the ‘2.8 million housing supply bomb’ and said, “On the site of national and public schools, the 1st to 5th floors will be school facilities and the 6th floor and above will be used as residential spaces so that parents can live while students attend school. I will,” he said.

“Through this, about 200,000 rental housing units that can only be supplied in Seoul are available,” he said.

Regarding the housing supply plan using the school site, Prime Minister Jeong said, “The number of school-age children and middle and high school students is decreasing significantly. We are studying how to use it as a school and use it as a rental housing by making it taller than that.”

Prime Minister Jeong used 1.3 million public housing units and 1.5 million privately supplied units as the background for the production of 2.8 million units. Among public housing units, 1 million units will be covered by public rental housing, and the remaining 300,000 units will be built as public housing units.

He said, “Of the 300,000 publicly sold units, 150,000 units will be supplied at half price and 150,000 units at half price. It is a ‘equity-accumulating house’ that pays in installments at a low interest rate for a long period of time up to 30 years.”

Regarding private supply, Prime Minister Jeong said, “The number of unsold units after licensing and construction starts is 800,000 units.”
