The so-called ‘IBK incident’, which started with Jo Song-hwa, the captain of the IBK Industrial Bank of Korea, is heading towards a truth workshop.
On the 23rd, IBK Industrial Bank of Korea won 3-0 against Dodram 2021-2022 V-League Women’s Revival Heungkuk Life Insurance held at Samsan World Gymnasium in Incheon.
Acting coach Kim Sani said at a press conference before the game that “I heard insulting comments from coach Seo Nam-won.”
When Song-hwa Cho left without permission, the then-director Nam-won Seo, in the presence of all the players and staff, said insulting words and unspeakable abusive language to him for 30 to 40 minutes, according to Kim’s assertion.
Veteran center Kim Su-ji also agreed with acting coach Kim’s argument. In an interview after the match, Kim Su-ji said, “It was a very uncomfortable place for us to feel. I want to say that part is true. There was a situation like that, rather than taking the side of (Acting Director Kim).”
In response, former manager Seo Nam-won said that he could not understand the allegations of verbal abuse and insults.
In a phone call with iNews 24, former coach Seo said, “At the time, I said to coach Kim, ‘You are a coach, not a player. Are you good at what you do? You have a long way to go and a person who has to be a manager can do it like a player?” he said.
He continued, “It may have made him feel bad when he heard this from coach Kim, not with a coach’s mind, but with a player’s mind. But he didn’t use abusive language.”
When Song Hwa Jo didn’t answer even if she talked to her, she asked Sani Kim to talk to the coach at the time. Director Seo insisted that saying, ‘There are cases of dogs like this,’ was the harshest thing to say.
Previously, IBK Industrial Bank of Korea fired the manager and general manager for blaming the team’s poor performance and the chaotic atmosphere in which the starting setters and coaches left the team. And the club made a somewhat incomprehensible move by appointing coach Kim, who had left the team, as acting manager.
In response to the club’s response, volleyball fans voluntarily raised money and held a truck protest in front of the headquarters of IBK Industrial Bank of Korea in Jung-gu, Seoul.
