Former India T20 captain Virat Kohli has suffered a major setback in the ICC T20I rankings. Kohli is not in the top ten in the ICC’s list of batsmen. The setback for Kohli was his inability to make a significant impact in the ICC T20 World Cup and his subsequent absence from the India – New Zealand (IND vs NZ) T20 series. Kohli is ranked 11th in the new list. This is the first time in the last one and a half years that Kohli has been dropped from the top ten in the batsmen’s list.

Meanwhile, India’s new T20 captains Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul have improved their rankings. Rohit’s performance in the T20 series against New Zealand, including two fifties, improved two places to 13th while KL Rahul moved up one place to fifth. With Kohli out of the top-10, Rahul is the only Indian batsman in the top-10.

Pakistan captain Babar Azam tops the list. Although he did not shine in the series against Bangladesh, his stellar performance in the T20 World Cup helped him to retain the number one spot. England’s David Malan is second, South Africa’s Aiden Markram is third and Pakistan’s Mohammed Rizwan is fourth. Rizwan moved up from fifth to fourth in the T20 World Cup. New Zealand opener Martin Guptill improved three places to 10th in the series against India.

In the bowlers’ rankings, Indian pacer Bhuvaneshwar Kumar jumped five places to 19th while Indian spinner R Ashwin jumped 129 places to 92nd position. Ashwin returns to the T20 squad for the T20 World Cup after a gap of four years. Ashwin did well in the World Cup and later in the T20 series against New Zealand.

Sri Lanka’s Vanindu Hazaranga tops the list of bowlers. South African spinner Tabriz Shamsi is second and England spinner Adil Rashid is third.

Only two pace bowlers have made it into the top ten. South African pacer Andrich Norcay (seventh) and England’s Chris Jordan (ninth) are in the top ten.

Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan remains at the top of the list of all-rounders. Afghanistan’s T20 captain Mohammad Nabi improved one place to second. Meanwhile, third on the list is JJ Smith of Namibia, a newcomer to cricket. His performance in the T20 World Cup earned him the best rank.
