ICC Test Rankings: Newcomer to first position in batting rankings, setback for Kohli

Dubai: New heir to the number one spot in the ICC Test Rankings batting rankings. Australian batsman Marnus Labuschagne has overtaken England captain Joe Root to take the top spot. This is the first time Labuschain has topped the ICC Test rankings. Labuschain scored a century (103) in the first innings of the second Test of the Ashes series and a half-century (53) in the second innings. This helped Labuschain to overtake Joe Root for second place with 912 rating points.

There were no other changes in the batsmen’s rankings on the first ball. Australia vice-captain Steve Smith is third and New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson is fourth, while Indian vice-captain Rohit Sharma is fifth. Meanwhile, Indian captain Virat Kohli, who was in sixth position, slipped one place to seventh while David Warner moved up to sixth. Dimuth Karunaratne, Babur Assam and Travis Head are the other batsmen in the top ten. Mayank Agarwal (12), Rishabh Pant (14) and Cheteshwar Pujara (17) are the top 20 Indian batsmen.

In the bowling rankings, Australian skipper Pat Cummins remained at number one with 903 rating points despite not playing in the second Test of the Ashes series. India’s R Ashwin is second with 883 rating points. Ashwin is the only Indian bowler in the top ten. Pakistan’s Shaheen Afridi is fourth and New Zealand’s Tim Southee is fourth. Josh Hazlewood is in fifth place. Jaspreet Bumra (12), Mohammad Shami (19) and Ravindra Jadeja (20) are the other Indian bowlers in the top-20.

Ashwin also ranks second in the all-rounders’ rankings. West Indies’ Jason Holder tops the list. Ashwin is second and Ravindra Jadeja is third.
