Internal revelations emerged that the construction union of the Korea Federation of Trade Unions had ‘split support’ to the opposition and opposition lawmakers with union money.

According to union officials who sent the donations at the time, they sent money from the union’s account to the executive’s personal account, and then sent the donations to some lawmakers by pretending it was a personal sponsorship. In this way, 6 million won in 2019 and 2020 were delivered to Rep. A of People’s Strength, and 3 million won each in 2020 to Democratic Party B and People’s Power C and D, according to insiders.

The officials also said that this ‘split support’ was ordered by Jin Byung-joon, chairman of the Korea Federation of Trade Unions (KFTU), construction industry union. An executive, who requested anonymity, told JTBC reporters, “The chairman said he can’t support because he is the head of the organization, and he will send money, so he told the lawmakers to put money into the support account.” Another executive said, “At that time, we announced the account number in the group chat room and asked for authentication by taking a picture of each remittance history.” According to the current Political Funds Act, organizations and organizations cannot support political funds.

Detailed news related to this will be delivered in a while in the JTBC Newsroom.
