Illinois boy, 4, dies from guns shots believed to another person: police

A 4 year old boy in Illinois was killed Monday from guns the police said were supposed to someone else.

Jeremiah Ward of Peoria died after burning 22 rounds in a complex apartment car park. He was beaten three times in the back and in the hand and died shortly after his arrival in the emergency room, officials said.

The boy was in a car with his mother and a man. Another passenger was a 23-year-old man who suffered injuries that were not life-threatening, and who believed that the investigators were the intended target, Springfield FOSP-WRSP-TV station reported.

It seems that the shooting "ambush-style," Peoria, chief police officer Loren Marion, said Tuesday.

"We know that a video being distributed on social media of Jeremiah is being loaded into the ambulance and we are highlighting anyone who has information or saw this progress," the chief said. "We cannot solve this without the help of the public."

Around 300 people gathered in the car park on Tuesday to remember Jeremiah. His mother struck a sock and broke it unsatisfactory.

She described the child's 4 years as "loving boy who passed up, facing her and kissing her cheek."
