Mumbai: India captain Virat Kohli has announced his support for Ajinkya Rahane, who is going through a poor career. Kohli has made it clear that he is not the person to judge Rahane’s form. “Only he knows what’s going on now,” he said, adding that this was a step towards securing Rahane’s support.
Ajinkya Rahane led India in the first Test in which Virat Kohli was rested. India had hoped to win the Test in Kanpur by the end, but were eventually held to a draw. Rahane was rested from the second Test after failing to shine with the bat. Following this, there were reports that Rahane may not be considered for the team for the tour of South Africa.
‘I’m not going to judge Rahane’s form. Not for me, no one can judge about that. Only he knows what Rahane is going through now ‘- Kohli said after the victory in the second Test at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
‘We have to ensure maximum support for the player in such situations. Especially in a situation where they have put out great performances before. We do not have the habit of asking players for reasons at such stages. That’s not how we do things, “said Kohli.
‘As players we know what’s going on in the team and what the issues are. There are so many things going on outside that it will not allow us to be affected. We will provide solid support to those on the team. It’s Rahane or anyone else, “said Kohli.
