President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan has approved the biggest legal reforms in the history of the UAE. Legislation is being enacted to make extramarital affairs a criminal offense, punish cybercrime, and ensure the protection of women. On the fiftieth anniversary of the formation of the nation, more than forty laws were amended.

President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan has approved legislation aimed at strengthening the economic, investment and trade sectors and ensuring social stability and security. One of the greatest legislative reforms in the history of the country has been the protection of the rights of women, children, individuals and institutions. The law, which promises better protection for women and domestic workers, stipulates that extramarital affairs are not considered a criminal offense.

Children in an extramarital affair must be accepted and cared for. Rape is punishable by life imprisonment. Rape is punishable by death if the victim is a person under the age of 18, or a person with a disability, or is incapable of resisting. Harassment in the workplace, at school, at home, or in hospitals can be severely punished. The law also puts in place stringent measures to combat cybercrime, online harassment, intimidation and fake news. Laws have been amended to include regulation and protection of investment, industry, commerce, company, industrial assets, copyright, trademarks, trade registers, electronic transactions, trust services, factory and residency.
