Inauguration ceremony for new KBO president Huh Gu-yeon “Korean baseball’s one-team base at the bottom of the ninth inning”

[아이뉴스24 류한준 기자] “I will turn crisis into opportunity.” Heo Gu-yeon, the new KBO president, who became the first Korean baseball player from Gyeonggi-do to become the head of the KBO, held an inauguration ceremony on the 29th.

President Huh attended the inauguration ceremony at the Baseball Hall in Dogok-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul on the afternoon of the same day, with the representatives (presidents) of 10 KBO leagues, KBO secretariat executives, and on-site reporters gathered. The event was kept simple. Following the commemorative photo, the official ball for this season with President Huh’s name was delivered.

President Huh said, “It’s the same microphone, but it feels different from when I comment on a baseball game. He was appointed as the 24th KBO president after former president Jung Ji-taek.

Governor Huh will serve the remainder of the term of President Jeong. He said, “This year, our baseball is at a critical crossroads,” he said. “For the past two years, the KBO league and almost all areas have been struggling due to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19). International competitions are also good. There were many bad things. If we compare it to baseball, it’s like being driven to a one-run situation at the end of the ninth inning,” he emphasized.

President Huh added, “I am well aware of the concerns of fans and experts who love baseball and the KBO league. We can turn a crisis into an opportunity.”
