Incheon Lunar New Year Holidays Violent crime dropped from last year… 19.6 cases per day

During this year’s Lunar New Year holiday, the number of violent crimes in Incheon decreased compared to last year.

According to the Incheon Metropolitan Police Agency on the 24th, from the 21st to the 23rd, the Lunar New Year holiday, an average of 19.6 cases of the five major crimes (murder, robbery, sex crimes, theft, and violence) had happened in Incheon the day.

There was a 12.5% ​​reduction in the number of crimes in the five major crimes compared to last year (22.4 cases).

During the same period, an average of 7.6 traffic accidents occurred per day, a reduction of 50.6% since last year. Casualties also fell by 60.4% to 10.6, and there were no deaths.

On the other hand, on average 3,177 112 calls were received per day, an increase of 20.2% since last year. Among them, the number of domestic violence cases increased by 12.2% to an average of 78.3 cases per day.

The police carried out crime prevention investigations in 3,407 places including financial institutions and large cash handling businesses (convenience stores, gold and silver shops). Patrol activities were strengthened for single female households, multi-generational areas, and areas that need protection for the common people.

In preparation for crimes targeting socially disadvantaged people, such as domestic violence and child abuse, special crime prevention activities were carried out, such as advance monitoring for families at risk of re-offending.

The police implemented special traffic control for major congested sections such as highway ICs, large markets, and park cemeteries to stimulate the establishment of a mature traffic culture.

In addition, parking and stopping around the traditional market is allowed to promote the convenience of traders and consumers, ensuring traffic safety and reducing traffic inconvenience through intensive management.

An official from the Incheon Metropolitan Police Agency said, “The Incheon Police Department plans to continue security activities tailored to the local characteristics to make Incheon safe for citizens even after the Lunar New Year holiday.”
