Foreign direct investment in Oman is expected to increase. Foreign investment rose 19 percent to 18 billion riyals in the first quarter of this year. During the same period last year, foreign investment was 15.07 billion riyals. This is according to the National Statistics Center. The UK tops the list of most invested countries. 8.495 billion investment was received from here. This is more than 47 per cent of the total foreign investment in the country. The US is in second place with an investment of 2.666 billion riyals. The UAE is in third place with 1.23 billion riyals.
The largest investment came in the oil and gas sector – 11.8 billion. Foreign direct investment in the sector is 21.8 per cent. The manufacturing sector is the second. However, investment in the sector declined by 5.6 per cent year-on-year. The investment received this year was 0.16 billion riyals.
