Earlier, India chased Australia’s first innings score of 263 runs and were bowled out for 262. Nathan Lyon took five wickets and broke India’s batting line-up. Axar Patel was India’s top scorer with 74 runs.

India started the second day on 21 runs without losing a wicket falling to the spin net of Nathan Lyon. With the score at 46, KL Rahul was run down in front of the Lion’s wicket. Rahul managed to score only 17 runs. Rahul, who remains in poor form, is unlikely to get a chance in the next game.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma was the lion’s next victim. Lion broke Rohit’s defense and gave the Aussies their second wicket. Rohit’s score was 32 runs. Cheteshwar Pujara, who started his 100th Test, was returned by Lion as a zero. Shreyas Iyer (4) who recovered from his injury could not hold his place in front of the Lions.

The Virat Kohli-Ravindra Jadeja partnership lifted India, who slumped to 66-4. The duo added 59 runs for the fifth wicket. Todd Murphy broke the partnership by dismissing Jadeja for 26 runs. Soon Kohli (44) also reached the pavilion. Matthew Kuhneman was the wicket.

After Kohli, the Lion completed his five-wicket haul by dismissing wicketkeeper Srikar Bharat. Lion also became the third player to complete 100 Test wickets against India. Axar Patel and Ravi Ashwin saved the day for India, who fell to 139-7.

Defending both of them was to test the patience of the Australian bowlers. India’s batting has picked up momentum. Ashwin was swinging the bat carefully as Axar pounced, finding boundaries with ease. The two added 118 runs for the eighth wicket.

Ashwin fell just 10 runs short of Australia’s score. Soon India lost Aksar too. Cummins’ incredible catch on Murphy’s ball led to the star’s dismissal. Axar scored 74 runs off 115 balls with nine fours and three sixes.

Renshaw bowled Mohammad Shami and set the stage for India’s innings. Apart from Lion, Cummins and Kuhneman took two wickets each.
