IND vs NZ: Man of the Match in Debut Test; Shreyas Iyer on the Elite list

Kanpur: The first Test between India and New Zealand in Kanpur (India vs New Zealand 1st Test) was the most beautiful match of Test cricket. Shreyas Iyer, who made his debut, won the Man of the Match award in a match that lasted till the last ball. With this, Shreyas was able to get a place in the elite list of Test cricket.

Shreyas Iyer is the seventh Indian to win the Man of the Match award in his Test debut. Prithviraj Shah (against West Indies in 2018), Rohit Sharma (against West Indies in 2013), Shikhar Dhawan (against Australia in 2013), Ravichandran Ashwin (against West Indies in 2011), Praveen Amre (formerly against South Africa in 1992) and South Africa (1992 against South Africa) Indians.

Shreyas Iyer, who scored 105 and 65 in the Kanpur Test, became the first Indian to score a century and a half in his debut. Shreyas becomes 16th Indian to make three Test debuts Shreyas became the third player to score 50+ in two innings of his Test debut in the Indian shirt. His predecessors were Dilwar Hussain and Sunil Gavaskar.

Shreyas is the third highest run scorer in Test cricket in India. Shikhar Dhawan (187), Rohit Sharma (177) and Shreyas Iyer (170) are in the record books.

Shreyas’ brilliant match saw India lose by one wicket at Kanpur. Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Akshar Patel struggled but lost 9 wickets. After losing nine wickets, Rachin Ravindra, along with the last batsman Ajaz Patel, defended against the nine – over Indian spin attack to level the Kiwis. Chasing a target of 284, the Kiwis were bowled out for 165 for nine. The score was India 345, 243-7, New Zealand 296, 165-9.
