Dublin ∙ Deepak Hooda’s and Sanju Samson’s fiery innings helped Ireland beat India to the same coin toss. Batting first in the second Twenty20, India scored 225 and escaped with a four-run victory. Score: India 225 for 7 in 20 overs. Ireland 221 for 5 in 20 overs. India won the two-match series (2–0). The Irish batsmen left the field yesterday, signaling danger to India, who had joined the ‘test’ team ahead of the Twenty20 World Cup. A total of 446 runs were scored in the match.

Batting first, India were bowled out for 225 by Sanju (77 off 42 balls) and Deepak Hooda (104 off 57 balls) for a superb century.

Hooda became the fourth Indian to score a century in T20I, while Hooda and Sanju became the best Indian batting partnership in T20I; 176 runs. Both scored their first half-century in the International Twenty20 yesterday. With the dismissal of Rituraj Gaikwad, Sanju got a chance to open the innings and started the innings with a four off the first ball.

The Irish openers bowled India out for an easy victory from the start. They scored 72 not out in the first 5 overs. Ravi Bishnoi dismissed Paul Sterling (40) in the sixth over. In the next over, Herschelle Patel took the wicket of captain Andy Balbirnie (60). Yet Ireland could not hold on to the batting line-up.

Ireland reduced their lead to 62 in the last 5 overs and 38 in 3 overs. Bhuvneshwar Kumar took one wicket for just 7 runs in the 18th over. Umran Malik scored 17 runs in the last over. Ireland scored 12 runs. Hooda is the Player of the Match.
