India-Nepal torrential rain kills at least 150

Heavy rains in India and Nepal over the past few days have killed at least 150 people by the 21st.

Nepal’s Interior Ministry announced that 77 people have been killed, 22 have been injured, and 26 have gone missing due to floods and landslides caused by heavy rains since the 18th.

The flood damage occurred mainly in western Nepal near the state of Uttarakhand in northern India.

India’s Uttarakhand state government said at least 46 people were killed in the incident, while officials from the southern Kerala state said 27 bodies were recovered.

In particular, with the highest number of casualties in Nainital District, Uttarakhand, at least 3,000 people were evacuated by rescue boats on the 18th.

The Indian Meteorological Agency said that 340.8 mm and 403.2 mm of rainfall were observed in Kumaon, including Nainital District, respectively, which is the highest recorded daily in the region.

Meanwhile, in the case of Kerala, there are currently about 200 refugee families living in 26 temporary shelters.
