London – Although the result of the World Test Championship final is still to be confirmed, Australia have the upper hand on the fourth day of the match. Rohit and his team have not been able to return to the game even once after the first session of the first day. India surrendered a lead of 173 runs in the first innings. In the first innings, the top order which included captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara managed to score just 71 runs. The batting of Ajinkya Rahane, Shardul Thakur and Ravindra Jadeja saved India from major embarrassment.
After this, former Indian player and coach Ravi Shastri has come out with harsh criticism against the performance of the Indian team. Three out of four of India’s top batsmen reached the final of the Test Championship with IPL experience. Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli were in great form in the IPL, including a century. However, Ravi Shastri’s criticism lies in losing a crucial match like the final.
Ravi Shastri was of the opinion that players should set their priorities straight while playing in the IPL and the national team. “You have to set your priorities. What is the priority, Indian team or franchise cricket? You have to decide that. Forget about a Test Championship final, even if it is franchise cricket. On the contrary, if this is important, the BCCI should give him the right to withdraw from the IPL to play for the national team after reaching an agreement with the players in the IPL,” he said Ravi Shastri.
Shastri suggested that the BCCI should first include this clause in the IPL contract and then the franchises could decide on each player’s squad. Ravi Shastri asked the BCCI as the guardians of cricket in the country to consider this matter seriously. This is not the first time Shastri has raised this issue.
He asked the players for the Test Championship final to be aware of their workload during the IPL season. After playing in the IPL till May 29, the Indian players entered the final of the World Test Championship after a gap of a week. Australia, on the other hand, had come to England a month before the Ashes and started training.
