Auckland : Defeated in the first match of the ODI series of India’s tour of New Zealand. New Zealand defeated India by seven wickets in the match held in Auckland. After losing the toss, India batted first and set a target of 307 runs against the Kiwis. Blackcaps captain Kane Williamson and Tom Lathan led New Zealand to an easy win. Latham also scored the highest score of his career.
It was Latham’s seventh career century. Latham was unbeaten with 19 fours and 5 sixes to lead the Kiwis to victory. Latham teamed up with captain Williamson to give the hosts victory with a partnership of 222 runs. Williamson remained unbeaten on 94 runs. The Kiwis captain’s innings included seven fours and one six. For India, Umran Malik took two wickets and Shardul Thakur took one wicket each.

Batting first, India set a target of 307 runs on the strength of Shreyas Iyer’s innings of 80 runs with a combination of openers Shikhar Dhawan and Shubman Gill. India scored 306 runs for the loss of seven wickets. Shreyas Iyer along with Sanju Samson led India to a better score of 160 for four. Sanju scored 36 runs off 38 balls. Washington Sundar then took India’s scoreboard to 300 through extra innings. Tim Southee and Lockie Ferguson took three wickets each for the hosts. Adam Milne took another wicket.
New Zealand went 1-0 in the three-match series with the win in Auckland. The next match in the series is in Hamilton on November 27. India had earlier won the T20 series in the tour.
