Indiscriminate artillery shelling in Kherson, Ukraine, hospital patients evacuated

Zelensky “Kherson is being undermined every hour … a Russian retaliatory act”

Ukraine is evacuating hospital patients from the southern province of Kherson, which was recently recaptured from Russia, to other areas, AFP news agency reported on the 25th (local time).

The Governor of Kherson, Yaroslav Janusevich, said on Telegram that day: “Due to the continuous shelling by Russian forces, we are moving patients from hospitals in Kherson to other areas.”

Governor Janusevich explained that child patients are taken to Mykolaiu and those suffering from mental illness are taken to Odessa.

Kherson is a strategic point connecting the Crimean Peninsula in Ukraine, which was forcibly annexed by Russia in 2014, and the eastern regions of Donbass (Donetsk and Luhansk Regions) occupied by pro-Russian separatist forces by land.

Ukrainian authorities claimed that Russia, which suffered the humiliation of retreating after eight months of occupying Kherson, was bombarding Kherson as if in resentment.

Ukrainian authorities said at least 10 people were killed and 54 injured after Russian forces shelled Kherson 49 times the previous day.

President Volodymyr Zelensky said in a video speech posted on Telegram that day, “We receive reports of attacks on the people of Kherson almost every hour.”

President Zelensky strongly condemned the continued artillery bombardment by Russian forces, calling it an “act of revenge”.
